Taylor Bill to Increase Penalties for Illegal Guns Passes House - 10/7/2014
Legislation to toughen the penalties against those who carry illegal guns was approved this week by the Pennsylvania House. Under House Bill 1091 carrying a firearm without a legal permit that is not owned by the person carrying the weapon would be a third-degree felony, and those convicted would face a mandatory minimum two year sentence. Bill sponsor Rep. John Taylor (R-Philadelphia) said he feels this is an important tool to help prosecutors in their fight against illegal firearm possession and violence in the city of Philadelphia.
Rep. Taylor Comments on House Passage of Liquor Privatization Legislation - 3/21/2013
Legislation that would get the Commonwealth out of the business of selling wine and liquor was passed by the Pennsylvania House on Thursday. Rep. John Taylor (R-Philadelphia), Chairman of the Liquor Control Committee, said liquor privatization is long overdue, and that this is the first step towards providing real choice for consumers in Pennsylvania. Legislation to close a loophole that allows straw purchasers of guns to escape mandatory sentences is now on its way to the governor’s desk. Rep. John Taylor (R-Philadelphia) said the bill sponsored by Rep. Marci Toepel (R-Montgomery) will help keep more weapons out of the hands of criminals by ensuring those with previous convictions do mandatory prison time for continued involvement in illegal gun sales.
